5Simply the best swimming buds  Mar 07, 2011
By James "J"
I have the previous edition Surge and these. There are several improvements, one of which is that these have a nominal 8 ohm impedance, whereas the earlier ones were 16 ohms. What that means, with an iPod at least, is that they will play a bit louder.

NO LEAKS folks!* Many size cushions included... try the size that fits the tightest first. And don't assume your ears are the same size! I use a L in my right and an XL in my left.

Make sure you ears are squeaky clean before sticking these in. Common sense.*(see edit below)

Nifty thing to note, and this is true of other brands I have tried, they get get louder and have more bass reponse the deeper you go. Not that that matters for swimming laps, and you shouldn't go more than a few feet deep with any earphone, but it is a neat effect.

* EDIT: 12/2011: OK, I have since the first review (9 months, about 150 workouts) had a few (very few) leaks. If you do get water in these, you will have little or no sound. About my "common sense" recommendation to make sure your ears are "squeaky clean" before using these, well, and I don't mean to gross anyone out, but I have found that these actually seal better (for me) if I don't clean my ears. I have slightly oily skin, and I have found that they are even more leak-proof if I don't clean my ears first. I know, a little gross, but hey, it's important. The most important thing about swimming buds is that they not leak. Try and see what works for your ears.

If you do get a leak while swimming, a good thing to do is stop, pull out the bud, and whack it in the back with a thumb-and-finger snap or two. This may get the water out, at least partly, enough to finish your workout in stereo.

One last thought: I have read reviews from other folks who use these for dryland workouts. These are not likely to be damaged by sweat, which is good (rinse thoroughly inside and out after use, pool or dryland), but bear in mind, these are designed for swimming, and they sound good only with an air/water tight seal. This means that you will not be able to hear much of anything in your environment, even with your volume down or device "off". If you want to chat with folks in the weight room, you don't want to be wearing these. You also won't be able to hear your swimming pals. If you are a social swimmer, or in a group where you need to hear instructions, there really is no waterproof bud for you; all of the ones that work require a seal.

4Exceeded Expectations!  Feb 15, 2011
By PeteC
After doing a little research on waterproof headphones I was very skeptical because of the varied results from users. However, as with anything, I decided to pick the item I thought to be the best and go with it to see for myself. The H2O Audio Surge 2 headphones worked as advertised and did not disappoint. It took me no longer to get setup than it did putting on my goggles. I wound the excess cord around my goggle band and clipped my waterproof iPod shuffle (another outstanding purchase!) to the band as well and off I went. The clarity was perfect for about 35 minutes when I got a little water in my left ear and the sound went out on that side, but the sound and clarity were still there in my right ear (which is the reason I gave only 4 stars). I did stop to clear the water from my left ear and the sound came back. I don't know if that is typical of all waterproof headphones, but I was happy just to hear music while I was submersed! It made my workout ten times more enjoyable than ever before and I found myself wanting to swim for another hour! My recommendation is to try out all the ear buds that come with the headphones to see which is the best fit. Typically, I wear a medium size earbud with headphones but decided to go with the small bud because it seemed to be a better fit and provided a better seal.

5Stays comfortably in-ear for the whole swim  Feb 11, 2011
By Josephine G
I had the original over-ear H20 headphones, and hated them - they slipped off my ears and I had to re-set them every few laps. I'm happy to report that these are super comfortable, fit nicely in-ear (I used the small size buds) without leakage, and even with a 45-minute swim, I never had to re-adjust. I would buy these again in a heartbeat. Oh yeah, and the sound was very nice: no ambient noise got in.

2Disappointing  Apr 27, 2011
By Steve Wolfram
I received them and I have been using them daily. The sound is good and the different headphone pieces help secure a good comfortable water tite fit - it took about 3-4 swims to narrow in on which ear buds felt best - but if they don't stay in and dry the sound can be really limited. Water in the ear will make these less effective so it is important to find a good fit that doesn't come out easily while breathing. What disappointed me is that after 2 weeks it appears that the rubber shielding is cracking and splitting open and I fear it is only a matter of time before the shielding no longer protects the wire.

5Swimming with music is awesome  Apr 12, 2012
By I was jealous of dry land
I started using waterproof earbuds after being sick and tired of wathching only people on dry land getting to hear music. I have used many different types of waterproof earbuds and have found All the earbuds I have tried has had something wrong with them. Most reviews I found were not in favor of these, or any, earbuds out there. But its the technology that is still new when it comes to waterproof earbuds. I gave these earbuds "5 stars" because in comparison to most others they offer the most without over inflating their prices.
These waterproof earbuds as all regular earbuds don't have superior home threater sound, but the music doesn't sound bad either. All waterproof earbuds rely on an airtight seal to conduct sound waves. Which means you need to experiment with the different sizes provided and don't expect to get a real good work out that first day. As a safety mechanism the bud does go out when water comes in direct contact with it but it is easily fixable. So far the soft blue pads have held up pretty long. When they do finally wear out, they're pretty cheap to replace.
This product offers a wider variety of sizes with good guality that has lasted me. Once I found my correct fit for each ear the buds hardly fall out. If they do its because of my error. They only thing I would change is the cord. Its way too long, maybe a retactable cord somehow would be better.
