love the TYR caps Sep 23, 2010
By S. S. Scott I've had Speedo & Keifer lycra caps - learned years ago that by far the easiest way to deal with my long hair (below shoulder blades & very thick) is to first shove it under a lycra cap, then slide a silicone cap over it to keep most of the chlorinated water off of it. the TYR caps are definitely larger, I think you get at least another inch of height on the cap - which if you've any amount of hair at all I think makes the fit vastly better. I have a somewhat small head - just a lot of hair. The Speedo's would barely cover my hair, and if my hand slipped pulling on the silicone cap the Speedo lycra would just pop right off, whereas the TYR stays in place.
I also learned the trick of wetting my hair before a swim and putting a light leave-in conditioner in, before stuffing it underneath the swim caps, in order to have the least amount of chlorine water absorbed. I tried using a silicone cap alone - they provide good protection, but with all my hair it was just a complete pain to get it all underneath the silicone cap. The addition of the lycra cap makes the whole hair preservation process a lot simpler.

comfortable cap that works May 06, 2008
By whoiskermit First, lycra caps are not for keeping your hair dry or water out of your ears. Lycra caps are designed to keep your hair out of your face (if your hair is that long) and out of other swimmers' mouths. Lycra caps are generally comfortable to wear and do not pull your hair when you put them on or take them off. I began wearing caps in the old days when most pools required caps to protect the filter system. Compared to Speedo lycra cap, the Tyr is slightly larger, the fabric is slightly heavier weight, and the sewing is slightly more robust. Together that means I prefer the Tyr by quite a bit. But if your head is very small, the Speedo may be a better fit. Remember to rinse the cap after each swim and it will last a lot longer but no lycra caps will last more than a few months (you will need at least 2 to get through a long summer season of daily swims).

Worth the money Apr 10, 2008

Lycra is like a fabric material and does not grab the hair. I am really happy with this product. Will never buy the silicone and latex caps.

Works fine for my purposes Sep 12, 2009
By Creative Creature I bought this to wear UNDER another cap, so it works fine for those purposes. If I put this lycra cap on prior to my silicone cap, my hair doesn't get pulled and it makes putting the silicone cap on easier. I have a large head with long hair, so I need a larger cap and this one works great. Have a Speedo of the same variety and it's just too small. Pulls off very easily.

What a relief Jul 21, 2010
By MomX5 I bought 5 of these - 3 for my swim team kids, and 2 for another family's kids. What a difference! They had such a hard time putting on their standard swim caps (made of latex) as it pulled their hair, snapped, etc. The lycra is so comfortable. All five kids love it and are going to great lengths to take good care of these. They can put the lycra caps on and take them off at will without any complaints. The kids are 11, 10, 9, 7, and 5. Fits them all. The only possible drawback is that it doesn't keep water out of the ears, which my 5YO wishes.
