runs a little small Aug 01, 2011
By pdxjoel It runs smaller than you think. I normally wear a 36 and a 38 was pretty tight. Too early too know if it is going to be durable in the salt water pool I swim in

Nylon Not the Best Choice May 24, 2011
By Dennis Hinkamp

I've been a regular swimmer for 30-plus years and have bought lots of TYR, Speedo and Dolphin products. These Nylon suits don't fit to size; you should probably get one size up from what you generally get in other fabrics because Nylon does not stretch much. This also means it does not move with you very well in the water. They may last longer but I'm not sure the less comfortable fit is worth it.

Too Tight... but getting better Aug 13, 2011
By Misanthropic Shaman
"nihil et omnia"
I just measured my waistline. It's just under 38". I previously bought a 38" Speedo brand swimsuit with lycra-spandex material, and it fit perfectly. This one that I ordered from TYR, unfortunately, is too tight. It could be due to either of two reasons. Either 1) the sizing is off, or 2) the nylon, being less "stretchy", will not conform to my contours. I must emphasize, I am not overweight. I am a large guy who works out 5x per week, and have a mesomorphic frame. I would suggest that anyone with a mesomorphic or endomorphic frame should probably order one size larger. People who are natural ectomorphs (naturally long and skinny) should have no problem fitting into these. __________ PS. I have worn it in the hot tub now, and dried it out. Oddly enough, it seems to fit better now... I have no idea why, but it does. Still though, be sure you have the right size and frame for this item!

Great to get an all nylon trunk again; good fit; well made Jun 05, 2011

Now that most of my swimming is in gym/hotel pools, I prefer this type of trunk because it packs easily, dries fast, and offers more room in the crotch than lycra/spandex suits. Best of all, because it has no lycra, it should maintain its shape and not get baggy with age. I still use my all nylon Speedos from decades ago, but until now I could not find a replacement.
Speedo offers an all nylon trainer suit too at a higher price, but based on pictures and reviews of that suit, it appeared to be boxier. The Tyr really does have a 4" side rise, which I prefer.
Keep in mind that this type of suit rides on the hips and is sized by hip rather than waist measurement. Like many tall people, I have a slim waist and wide hips -- for me a 34" waist is loose in slacks, but way too small in swim trunks. I ordered a size 36 and like it, but could even wear a 38 comfortably.
Yes, the waist and leg openings are tight, but I assume they will relax a bit with time, and they are comfortable now.
The construction appears to be very good. The nylon appears to be a bit heavier weight than in my old Speedos and the front panel is more generous. And the Tyrs cost about 30% less, so I bought 2 pair.
I would give these trunks 5 stars, but I do not yet know how well they will hold up -- I assume well, and I'll be back to add the 5th star in a few years.
Didn't last long Mar 26, 2012
By Orange Curtain I write this review after 1 year of purchase. This suit is long, long gone. How long did it last? I don't know, maybe 6 months. I swim a lot, 5~6 days a week but I have more than one suit so it's not like this suit was worn every day. The color faded and then the fabric went, and by "went" I mean the elasticity/compression was gone. This means your junk is sort of hanging out loosely - not good. Maybe that's just how suits are - chlorine is harsh. Most of my suits, regardless of the manufacturer seem to fade and stretch after a few months. My Speedo suit seems to have lasted longer. It was good while it lasted which is why it gets 2 stars. If you don't swim much, it's probably ok. If you swim a lot I don't think it will last long. I won't buy again.
